This collection embraces the heritage of the traditional Mayan women who hand embroider these beautiful shirts on a backstrap loom. Each village and ceremonial event has a distinct pattern and the designs are handed down from generation to generation. It can take upwards of 6 months to complete the more intricate patterned Guatemalan huipiles and the women typically wear them for 1 -2 years before they are traded or sold at market. We pay our artisans a handsome price for each huipil and every effort is made to only purchase the highest quality huipiles we can find. Please note that because these textiles are re-purposed there may be some minor discoloring or loose threads found in the embroidery. We believe these imperfections add to the beauty of these one of a kind textiles and would not consider it a flawed or returnable item.
